Clark & Jack are buddies

Ever since last Wednesday, the boys are becoming increasingly close.  We crated Clark while we were eating dinner this evening, and Jack crated himself next to Clark. Jack's crate door was wide open, but he laid facing his friend, keeping him company. I have seen the boys do this for each other over the past few days.  It's so comforting to see how deeply they care for one another.

It truly warms my heart to see that Jack has a friend in Clark.  The boys romp and play all night long, biting playfully, chasing each other, and talking the entire time, making indistinguishable sounds! 

Windy is our princess, and she doesn't care for all the rough housing! After a few minutes of being subjected to the boys and their rough play, she gives us that pleading look, to lock her up safely in her crate, until the boys are herded outside.

They boys are sound asleep after having dinner this evening.  We are so glad the two of them are so happy. :)  Windy will be rewarded for her patience, by sleeping with us in our room tonight.

The boys had some time in the yard tonight!! They played and Jack asserted himself, by chasing Clark, but not too hard.  Jack would chase and then let Clark go.  They chased each other for a time too.  Then I introduced Windy, our female to the mix (inside the house).  Jack was possessive of her, but not forceful, so I gave them a chance outside, they were not overly friendly, but things were OK, these are good steps forward.

Clark may do well in a home with either a male or female dog - or both!  Clark really is a good dog. He's just a big puppy that wants to play, be fed, and receive lots of love.  He'll make some family very happy!

Never say Never!!!

For the past 4 weeks, I have been  hoping almost in vain that our foster dog Clark and our dog, Jack would be able to play together.  You see, my boy Jack was the runt of his 11 pup litter.  Jack didn't recieve the puppy play time that he needed, due to being bottle fed, with his human parents hoping that he would at least survive, which he did, and he became extremely well socialized to human beings.. but became a dominant force when playing with other dogs.

Having Jack & Clark has been a challenge, due to Jack's dominance issues.  We have had to keep Jack on a leash and let Clark roam or vice versa... tonight I had Jack on a leash and he finally seemed to calm down... well, I let him off leash and Clark too....

I was watching these two males, armed only with a squirt bottle filled with water and an assertive no nonsense tone... well the boys have been playing and running around the house, Jack started to get rough for a moment, and then I verbally corrected him, and all was well.  They are learning to play together.

Poor Clark is dying to have a young playmate!! I hope that soon Jack can be his full-time friend. :)  If that becomes the case, then we'll only have to start rotating our female GSD Windy, the boys are both head over heels in love with her... but at least she knows how to play nicely with canines and humans alike. :)

Clark is doing well

We've had Clark now for about a month.  He's really adjusted to a family situation.  He really loves having other dogs in the home. Clark plays very well with our female Windy and really likes our male, Jack.  Jack isn't so thrilled with Clark, but he can tolerate him while on leash.  Clark might do well with a male in his new home... we would just need to test it out. 

Clark eats like a champ!  And he runs into his crate willingly to be fed breakfast and dinner.  He will enter his crate for a yummy liver treat too. :)  Clark is good with his sit and shake command, he seems to be catching on to "down", but we are always working on "stay".  Not a big surprise though, Clark is only about 1 year old, so he really is still a puppy.

Clark is a very sweet guy.  He is housebroken, energetic, loves to play, and eager to please.  He loves being able to spend time with his doggie and people family.  If you know of anyone that would be willing to give Clark the love, time and training he needs to grow into the magnificent dog he is mean to be, please refer them to Serendipity German Shepherd Rescue at  http://www.serendipitygsd.org/

Oh one last thing, Serendipity GSD Rescue will be participating in a Meet and Greet at Four Muddy Paws in Lafayette Square on Saturday, April 3rd.  We'll have foster dogs and their families available to answer questions, and introduce you to our organization. We'll also be selling a few fund raising items for our group.  Please come out and support this worthy cause, that helps rehabilitate wonderful dogs in order to prepare them for the rest of their lives. :)
